What can your body communicate without words? In this workshop, we explore the intersection of contemporary dance and mime as a way to approach movement from a different perspective. Drawing on principles from (Dutch) mime and mime corporel, we examine how presence, precision, and imagination can expand dancers’ movement vocabulary.
We work from the idea of a personal “zero point”: a state of physical alertness and openness from which every movement can carry meaning. Through technical exercises, improvisation, and short creative assignments, participants explore how they relate to space, time, and (invisible) elements, and how they can translate these into their own physical language.
In addition, we work with existing movement material and explore questions of interpretation: how do you make something your own without merely reproducing it? How can the body speak not through representation or acting, but through pure embodiment?
This workshop is aimed at dancers who wish to deepen their expressive possibilities and are curious about the cross-pollination between dance and mime. A physical, exploratory practice in which imagination and the body come together.
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
