In this workshop, we’ll explore explicitly rhythmic dance. We’ll begin by warming up body and mind through playful improvisations designed to awaken and sharpen your sense of beat and groove. You will then be challenged with a short movement phrase that brings several rhythmic principles into focus.
From there, you’ll step into the role of creator: using a set of guiding principles, you’ll develop your own continuation of the phrase, and then we’ll create variations on each other’s material in smaller groups. By the end, we’ll have a short piece of choreography to show for it.
