Images can speak loudly, but also whisper through symbols, atmospheres and subtle choices. What is a visual voice and how can you tell something personal through drawings, without everything being literally revealed?
Throughout this series we explore different ways to build an image. We experiment with style, composition and theme, and discover how structure and the way in which a drawing “is put together ” can direct and enhance an image. Sometimes we start from a simple underlying frame that helps to get a grip on a drawing, sometimes we just let go of that principle to make room for intuition.
Each session starts from images from both art history and contemporary art. We look, discuss and translate these into new work in our own way. This creates an interaction between looking, understanding and doing.
This series is open to everyone, regardless of your level or prior knowledge. For beginners, we look for guidance in building an image, while more experienced artists are challenged to further deepen and break open their visual language.
We do not only look at 'how' you draw, but especially look for what you want to tell.
WISPER Gent is situated at the Dok Noord site. Make sure to read the information on our Dok Noord page beforehand because this place can be a bit of a maze when you first come here.
