This short series is all about characters. No ordinary characters, but characters based on.... food!

In Japan, this is a daily phenomenon. In advertising, as well as in film and animation, food comes to life in the form of real cartoon characters. Just Google Gudetama, Anpanman or To-Fu Oyako to meet a few.

Under the guidance of illustrator Ming Yue, who studied in Japan for many years, we delve into this Asian visual design culture. We will start with our favorite foods to design cartoon characters and explore how to make them expressive. During the course, we will experiment with shape, expression and color to bring our food characters to life. Maybe we can even make them come together in a visual story?

We will work with different illustration techniques and materials, drawing inspiration from various Japanese examples and illustrators, but equally implement elements from our own food culture.

After this series, you'll never look at your food the same way again!

Practical

Preferably bring your own apron or work shirt. All materials are provided and included in the course fee.

Level of experience

Level X: everyone is welcome. You don't need any prior knowledge or drawing experience for this course.
