How a drawing is built often determines as much as what exactly is drawn. Nevertheless, composition remains an underexposed aspect for many people, which is why we want to put it in the center of attention for one day.
We investigate how choices such as framing, emptiness, balance, tension and asymmetry can control the meaning of an image. When does a drawing feel calm and clear? When does it feel dynamic or uncomfortable? And how can you consciously use these effects?
We actively work on these question with targeted exercises and an investigating approach. We draw, rearrange, cut and commemorate images to discover what works and what doesn't.
The aim for this course is not to unravel one correct way, but to get in touch with different possibilities and to discover which visual balance can broaden and stimulate your way of working and thinking.
This will be a day in which you learn to steer what a drawing tells, before there is one line on paper.
