The city is in constant FLUX - shaped by movement, encounters, rhythms and change. In this workshop, we explore the city of Leuven as a shifting and living environment. Moving through different urban areas, we walk, observe and listen. We tune in to the flow of urban life: architecture, people, transitions, pauses and soundscapes that continuously reshape the city.
Back in the studio, these experiences in flux become the starting point for creative work. What we encountered outside is translated into performative material. Using a visible platform on the studio floor, we work with bodies, text and materials to explore urban space through composition. A detail from the city — a piece of street art, a spatial rhythm, a fleeting encounter — may transform into a text fragment, a soundscape, a video or a movement-based score.
The workshop is rooted in embodied exploration and sensory awareness. We reflect on how we experience the city in flux through our senses — what we see, hear, touch and feel — and how urban space constantly shifts our movement, attention and interaction. Through individual exploration, group devising and practical tools offered by the facilitator, participants create short performative vignettes that capture a moment, a transition or a personal experience of the city in motion.
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
