When voice work and dance come together... sparks are guaranteed to fly.
Have you noticed that your voice sounds different depending on whether you are lying down, standing up or moving? Or that your movements become more powerful when you add sound to them? Voice and movement are closely related.
Our voice is an integral part of our body and can support the projection of our dance and give it extra meaning. The voice is generated by the combination of muscles, tendons, cartilage, abdominal muscles, vocal cords, larynx and tongue. Just like other physical activities, using your voice requires training, and intensive use can also lead to stiffness or fatigue.
In this course, you will be introduced to a technique that gives your voice space. In addition, we will move around a lot and play with what our voice and body tell us in different places and positions! It will be a dynamic laboratory, where we switch between research and composition.
This is a course for people who have experience with dance and movement, feel comfortable in their expressive and moving bodies, and are not afraid to dance, play and explore with others. Step by step, we will explore and encounter our voice as part of that moving body.
On the last day, this journey will come together with a group that is more familiar with voice work and has got to know their moving body in the process. From a shared vocabulary, we will continue to play and experiment.
Mileen Borgonjon and Indra Boone are joining forces for this project. Indra brings her experience and expertise as a voice coach, speech therapist, singer and performer. Mileen is a dancer/performer, passionate about contact improvisation, and also brings inspiration from various movement and somatic practices (Ido Portal Movement Method, Breathwork, Feldenkrais, etc.).
