Are you an experienced musician, theatre actor/producer, writer, visual artist, or dancer? Would you like to spend a week creating, refining and tinkering independently, either alone or with your company or band? Are you driven by a desire to explore and have an artistic idea that you want to hatch in our nest full of possibilities? Become an artist in residence (AIR) during our summer week at OPEK!
During our summer week in Leuven — from Monday 5 July to Saturday 11 July — we are opening up workspaces for five days to artists in residence in music, visual arts, literature, dance and theatre.
What do you get from us?
Your own little atelier in OPEK. This really will be your artistic palace, so feel free to leave your materials lying around. Courses are taking place throughout the building at that time, which you are welcome to peek into. There are also students and teachers walking around whom you can ask questions. In short: we surround you with art and inspiration.
You have the freedom to determine your own schedule and hours. You will have a number of contact moments with the artistic staff member of your discipline. This is the moment to ask questions, test perspectives, share a feeling...
You will also have access to our equipment room full of costumes, drawing materials, paper, boosters, theatre lights, musical instruments... You can also browse at will in our library full of literature on art, theatre, dance...
What do we expect from you?
During the week, you will occasionally share your inspiration on the wall provided for this purpose at OPEK. This could be a question, a design, a material study, etc. You will leave the door ajar for curious students who want to take a peek. At the end of your residency, you will show what you have or give an insight into your process/performance/product. You choose how you do this; we certainly do not expect a finished product.

In mid-June, we will let you know whether you have been selected or not.
TIP: It’s well worth taking care over your submission. After all, we receive more submissions for our summer residency every year. Please stick to the maximum length of one page and ensure that your application really tells us something about you and your project.
By the way, selected or not, our door is and always will stay open all year round for questions or just a quick 'hi!'

Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
