This is an ensemble course in which percussionists, musicians and singers form a band together.
If you've ended up here, chances are you love nothing more than making music with others. But do you sometimes feel that things could be just a little bit different, or are you stuck in your own habits? It doesn't always have to be a cheerful pop song or a time-honoured classic?
In this course, we draw inspiration from rhythms and sounds of cultures around the world. An inexhaustible source and rich history of sounds and traditions form the basis for spontaneous, new music. We look beyond the obvious and experiment with the input of all participants. Everything starts with a good groove, from which the energy flows naturally.
Does that all sound a bit exciting? Then we would like to introduce you to Jef and Sarah. They are here to keep everything running smoothly and to support the whole process. One is WISPER's well-known rhythm master and gained his experience in percussion ensembles and street bands. The other immersed herself in various folk genres from Malmö, Sweden, and will take you on a journey through Middle Eastern atmospheres on her kanun.
At the end of this course, we will perform a little music at the WISPER presentation days (Friday 29 or Saturday 30 May).
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
