The naked body is a fluid form: abstract, rounded, angular, closed, open, etc. You can see it as a collection of colour nuances in varying light conditions, with soft shadows and subtle transitions. But imperfection, too, should be acknowledged and cherished: blemishes, creases and irregularities give a body its character.
The human body can tell a story, express an emotion, or be a character. We do not necessarily strive for an accurate representation, but are also interested in the expression that ‘incorrect’ lines and distortions can evoke.
And what about the background, actually? Because it’s often overlooked… Mark our words, but all sorts of things can happen in a background too! How can a background play a distinct role in the image? A background can evoke a certain atmosphere and even tell a whole story.
Well then, plenty of reasons to spend a whole Sunday exploring this subject and its myriad possibilities!
We’ll use paint and various drawing materials, and discover how playing with visual elements can reveal different meanings. Fascinating stuff for painters, draughtsmen and illustrators alike!
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
