Close harmony is a polyphonic singing style in which the different voices lean towards eachother. In close harmony, voices run alongside and through each other and make strange leaps. This creates a lot of friction - within the chords - which gives this music its unique sound palette.
In this course, we explore this style. We focus on musical skills such as sensing tempo and rhythms, playing with dynamics and feeling stable within an arrangement of voices. We will look for the right blend, harmony and timing. For our repertoire, we find inspiration in well-known jazz classics and Brazilian songs by Trio Esperança and Os Tingoãs, among others.
Led by Indie Pop star-to-be Anu Junnonen (Junn), you will learn to blend the different voices into a beautiful whole.
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
