Fabrics have always played a special role in painting - from minutely rendered details to more stylised approaches. During this workshop, we explore the interaction between fabric and paint!

We start by exploring different fabrics and textile materials. How can we distort, manipulate and combine them into fresh compositions and sculptural forms? We experiment with layers, textures, pleats, drapages, binding and sewing techniques.

Then we bring these textile creations to life with paint and ink on paper and other surfaces. Through observation, we learn how to capture light and shadow, and how shades and tones are created through playful brushstrokes. Again, we work in layers, abstract forms and play with colour - from colourful palette to subdued monochrome.

Finally, we reverse the process: we choose a theme based on visual material, paint shapes on paper and cotton, and afterwards edit textile materials inspired by these paintings.
