UK jazz refers to the improvised dance style that emerged in the United Kingdom in the 1970s. This style first surfaced in London clubs to the sounds of bebop, Afro-Cuban jazz, fusion, swing and other jazz and funk with Latin influences.
Characteristic is the sharp and fast footwork, with which spectacular dance battles were held in the early days! In addition, UK jazz also contains many high jumps, challenging knee drops, fascinating spins and unexpected rhythmic turns to the music. We start with a warm-up around body flow, movement exploration and improvisation. Then you'll be introduced to footwork techniques and variations of UK jazz fusion and house dance.
We end with a dance jam where playful directions will encourage you to improvise.
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
