We'll begin with a warm-up focused on body flow, movement exploration, and improvisation. Then, you'll be introduced to the footwork techniques and variations of UK jazz fusion and house dance. We'll conclude with a dance jam where playful exercises encourage you to improvise.
About UK Jazz
UK jazz refers to the improvised dance style that emerged in the United Kingdom in the 1970s. This style first emerged in London clubs to the sounds of bebop, Afro-Cuban jazz, fusion, swing, and other Latin-influenced jazz and funk.
Its distinctive features are sharp and fast footwork, which was used in spectacular dance battles in the early days! UK jazz also features many high jumps, challenging knee drops, fascinating spins, and unexpected rhythmic twists to the music.
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
