It is human to always be looking for a logical explanation for all that is happening around us, but in this course we do the opposite! We try to consciously turn off the explanatory process so that our imagination can have free rein.

Because: in a drawing, anything is possible. Stones falling up, a colorful bird of paradise becoming the new president of the U.S.A.. For years, absurdism has been used by artists, writers and thinkers to evade the fixed rules of the world we live in.

This course is all about far-fetched humor, bizarre combinations and, above all, very absurd situations. The best absurd drawings often derive their power from their simplicity; just look at illustrators like David Shrigley and Hugleikur Dagsson.

So you certainly don't have to be a master illustrator to get your (absurd) ideas on paper. In any case, we at WISPER are no fans of the labels "right" and "wrong," but in a world without meaning, those terms matter even less.

For this drawing day, we take inspiration from contemporary artists such as Julie Curtiss and Brecht Vandenbroucke, as well as well-known names such as René Magritte and Dorothea Tanning.

Feel like swearing off logic and meaning for a whole day and taking in the world in an absurd way? Join us!
