What are my model's most characteristic traits and how do I translate them into an image? What influence does choice of material have on a portrait? How do I let someone's character shine through in a drawing or painting? To what extent should a portrait be realistic?

Portraiture is a fascinating profession in which you learn to take a closer look and with lots of room for your own artistic choices and personal interpretations. During this intensive one-day course, the technical aspects are covered, but we also experiment with distortion, the possibilities of our artistic expression and letting go of rules and conventions.

Through numerous short exercises and experiments with materials such as charcoal, pencils and watercolour, you gain insight into portraiture and into your own visual language as a portrait painter or draughtsman.
