A remarkable workshop for people open to an adventure, going home with a broader body awareness!
Dervish whirling is a 700 years old ritual that originates from a desire to look within one’s self and to be united with nature in all its forms.
Everything in nature revolves, every object, every being, from planets and stars down to the protons, electrons and neutrons, spin. Whirling allows you to join in this shared revolution of all existence. By spinning around one’s axis, beginning with gentle turns that grow increasingly dynamic, the participant gradually reaches a state of trance.
The workshop uses the traditional ritual as a tool for meditation. It aims to be more aware of the different states of the body and mind, to increase concentration and to help mental and physical relief. It is an inner journey that teaches people to be just with themselves in the moment by focussing on breathing. It eliminates concerns of past, present and future.
The first two sessions are an introduction and dive into the whirling practice. The third session is about expanding in whirling and meeting with the traditional Dervish skirt. At the end of the workshop you'll have mastered a new way of meditating that is accessible to you at any moment. As you reach a deeper understanding and awareness of how body and mind interact, you'll have more tools at your disposal to handle mental and physical challenges.
I feel dizzy very easily. Can I participate? Yes. We will together learn the reasons for dizziness and will find different ways to accomplish and get over all our mental, emotional and physical obstacles. We’ll expand our limits and have an extensive awareness of our body and mind.
I have a problem keeping my balance, can I participate? Yes. This workshop doesn’t require any dance/sport experience or physical training. It welcomes people from all ages and backgrounds. Concerning your balance, you’ll be guided and observed very well by the instructor.
