In this course, we challenge ourselves to rediscover typographic letters, numbers and signs away from their meaning.

We look at signs from a new perspective: as pure forms. We will go into their anatomy and construction, explore them and playfully work with their building blocks. For instance, we will use colour to give extra depth to the forms. With compositions, we will explore the interplay of shape and colour. To bring our experiments to life, we will use manual techniques: from cutting and pasting to using the manual printing presses.

The aim of this course is to break through familiar ideas about letters and numbers and challenge ourselves to engage in a critical exploration of shape and colour.

This course is also open to English-speaking participants. If you have a cultural background that does not use the Latin alphabet, we absolutely encourage you to participate in order to bring your insights into our research.
