Contact improvisation is a dance form based on improvisation, physical dialogue, and the exploration of movement through touch. This dance form originated at the intersection of dance, acrobatics, and meditative practices and has become a global movement language.
Together, we will explore the core principles of contact improvisation. You will learn to give and receive weight, and how to find both stability and freedom in this process. Responding to touch, impulses, and a partner's direction of movement is crucial. Together you will learn to fall, lift, and explore rolls in dialogue with the floor.
In contact improvisation, there are no fixed steps; the dance unfolds in the moment. Trust and playfulness are therefore central: you can expect openness, spontaneity, and safety in both the duet and the group.
This course of 8 lessons (2 hours each) is designed as a gradual introduction to these principles. Each lesson combines exercises in awareness and sensitivity, partner techniques, group explorations, and allows for free dance.
