During these Sunday afternoons, we will zoom in on the themes of senses and perception; think: movement, touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight. We will be guided by a mix of movement exploration, sensory awareness exercises and shared reflections, inspired by the Body-Mind Centering® (BMC) technique.
Here, we explore not only what and how we perceive things, but also how we give meaning to what we perceive and how we respond to it. Think of it as a key concept for understanding how perception and action are intertwined.
We invite the body to take the lead, allowing each participant to take part at their own pace and in their own way. No previous movement experience is necessary, being willing to listen, feel and be curious is more than enough. Together we create a supportive space where everyone's perception is valid, and any way of knowing through the body is welcome. The process is inclusive, adaptable and co-shaped by the participants.
About bodywork at WISPER
Our bodywork interventions focus on taking time for recovery, renewal and building greater understanding of our body structure. This supports us to dance and move in a healthy way and more generally: integrate healthy movement patterns into our daily lives. Bodywork into movement will always bridge from somatic inputs to an integration of these inputs into our dance and moving body.
Highly recommended for every dancer and, by extension, for everyone!
About the principals from BMC
Body-Mind Centering® integrates movement re-education and hands-on repatterning. The work draws on the rich and varied resources of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and developmental principles. At the core of the courses are detailed approaches to accessing each body system and their integration into the patterns of our movement. We do this in various dynamic and physically active ways and learn through our personal processes. The approach is based on the fullness of our own sensory experience. The journey we take leads to greater awareness and a deeper understanding of ourselves as human beings. It helps to understand how the mind expresses itself through the body, and the body through the mind.
