Lukah Katangila is a choreographer, dancer, interpreter and performer born in Goma, North Kivu/East DR Congo. He wants to meet people, exchange dance styles from different cultures around the world to bring a united Africa from central to east, west, south to north. His passion for hip-hop, contemporary and traditional African dance has its roots in his native country. From the age of six he was introduced to the arts within the Mboka Dance Family, where he was introduced to dance and playing African instruments such as djembe, likembe, kalumbatini, marimba, dungu and kinubi.
Dance for Lukah almost works as a weapon, as a tool for education, shared empowerment and as a political message. Choreography and movement offer a safe collective space, a moment where violence has no place. From 2012 to 2018, he worked with several cultural centers and orphanages for street children and child soldiers in the African Great Lakes region.
