Korneel Detailleur

Korneel Detailleur is an illustrator. He was born in Ostend, grew up in the polders of Gistel and, after spending some time in Antwerp and Ghent (where he studied animation and illustration at KASK), ended up back in the city by the sea.

Korneel not only illustrates books (by authors including Bart Moeyaert and Raf Walschaerts) but also works on commission for newspapers (De Morgen, De Standaard) and magazines (Knack, Trends). Korneel loves contrasts in his illustrations. He combines defined planes with flowing forms, uses delicate lines amidst monumental shapes, works with both bright and muted colours, and brings clarity and suggestion to his images. He works with materials such as Ecoline, acrylic paint and pastel chalk, resulting in poetic drawings that leave plenty of room for the viewer’s own interpretation.
