Helena Cnockaert

Helena Cnockaert majored in visual arts with a specialization in Textile at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, and did an educational master's on top of that. Her own practice invariably unfolds from field research, visual works and texts. Helena sees textile as her common thread, but that does not always have to be literally as a raw material. It can also be from drawings, audio fragments or from photo to drawing to embroidery.

In her educational studies, she delved into the art educational space as an in-between space in which a shared language is developed for experiencing and observing art. This philosophical approach translates nicely into her teaching methods, where Helena connects art historical contexts with current themes and exhibitions. With a focus on experimentation, dialogue and interdisciplinary research, she strives to create a space where complexity is embraced both in her own work and in her teaching.
