Working with groups in which different languages and ethnic-cultural backgrounds can be challenging for both participants and teachers. At the same time, art education has lots to offer when it comes to an inclusive way of working, and has the potential of a universal language connecting people.
This day is intended for those who want to learn more about art education - starting from music, dance, theater or image - as both a means and a goal in working with diverse groups.
Various themes will be addressed: knowledge of the Dutch language (active and passive) and the power of non-verbal communication, cultural taboos, different learning cultures, traditional versus active art education ...
Our approach is not theoretical. Together, we get to work starting from artistic assignments and experience what this does to us as a group and as individual participants. The goal is to exchange experiences and to inspire. With an open mind and a strong belief in the power of diversity.
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
