Language & teacher(s) English

We start this course from the here and now, paying extra attention to grounding and our own bodies. Gradually, twisting and resistance exercises are introduced to activate and even challenge our dancing body. As classes progress, we explore our connection with others and the space we move into. We do this through playful tasks that gradually intensify.

Halfway through the lesson series, we shift the focus from turning and resistance to more fluidity and groundwork, keeping in mind all the input from the previous lesson(s). The series concludes with a dynamic combination bringing together all the elements from the previous lessons and focusing on movement quality, density and spatial awareness.

Throughout this sequence, participants are encouraged to explore the balance between control and letting go. Ultimately, we aim to discover freedom within a given structure and explore a variety of movement qualities in relation to musicality.

Practical

This course is taught in English. Wear clothes in which you can move easily. We dance barefoot. Bring a bottle of water for in between dances.

Level of experience

Level 1: you never took a contemporary dance course before OR you want to get back to/further master the basics. The basic courses in the dance programme can be taken several times (which is highly encouraged, by the way!).
