In contact improv, there is a concept called "rolling point of contact", sometimes we also consciously include "sliding" it into our vocabulary.
When we really focus on the kinetic possibilities of the zone of contact itself, there are many more that we can identify and make practical use of in our improvisations.
Some of them have a more compositional feel, others are inherently more visceral. In this workshop, we’ll practice 12 different ways to move the zone of contact. We'll get a good sense of each one of them and naturally break out of quite a few habits. Thus, we’ll reinvent and inspire our dance by focussing on each form's intrinsic gadgets, the contact and its movement qualities.
ABOUT CONTACT IMPROVISATION (CI) :
Contact improvisation has its roots in the early 1970s. It is a rich world, a playing field, a laboratory, a poetic universe. A basic physical principle is to play based on our movement instinct, opening our movement potential while sharing contact and weight with one or more partner(s).
No matter how small, subtle, soft or highly acrobatic the movements are, it is all about listening, being available and responding. Unlike other partner dances, we do not only remain vertical. We travel together through all levels of space, directions, upside down and all around, to and from the floor. Supporting and being supported, carrying and being carried.
No fixed steps, but movement principles and deep active listening, being present. Before we know it, we are inhabiting our unique dance in that moment.
