Where words fall short, music acts as a common language. It allows us to tell the other person about ourselves or, even more, to build a connecting, common story. This is why we are looking for musicians from all walks of life and backgrounds to make music together.
Our goal? Mixing musicians with musicians! That way, we bring different languages, backgrounds, cultures and ages into contact with each other.
The community band is especially for those who find it difficult to find their way to art education or higher education in general, but do want to develop musically.
All instruments are welcome: from saxophone over guitar to oed, derboeka and ukulele! Or maybe you prefer to use your voice as an instrument.
Level does not matter, both beginners and advanced players will have their place in our band.
We start with improvisation or with input from the participants.
Gradually, as a group, we focus on our own repertoire.
Check www.opek.be for more information about how to get here. At the first session, you will be welcomed by someone from WISPER who will tell you exactly where in/around the building your course takes place.
Good to know if you take a full-day course here: for the lunch break, you can bring your own lunch, eat in at Café Entrepot or buy something at the Lidl supermarket around the corner.
