Carll Cneut studied graphic design at the Sint-Lucas Institute in Ghent. Initially working as an art director in Antwerp, he made his debut as a picture book illustrator in 1996 with Varkentjes van marsepein with text by Geert De Kockere. Gradually, he learned to master his color palette and express emotions in colors and shapes. Especially the composition of his drawings is his great strength, suggesting a world much larger than the boundaries of a paper sheet. You see, as it were, the world outside the book in his drawings. These are never quite finished because in this way the children's imagination is stimulated. In their own imagination they can complete the drawings.
