This Ableton course is for anyone who wants to sharpen their skills as a beatmaker, this can be interpreted very broadly by the way. Across the boundaries of different genres, you will be introduced to various techniques for creating a good sounding groove, drum loop or rhythm. In no time you will give your own tracks that almost inexplicable dancing feel. Songwriters are also welcome!

It's best if you already have some feel for the soft, because we dive straight into the musical application of the programme and learn to apply the technical principles in a more refined way.

In-house teacher Reindert will give you a helping hand to take your own tracks to the next level.

Last but not least, perhaps the Ableton course “First steps in music production” is something for you!

Not sure about your level? Take a good look at the prerequisites or send an email to reindert@wisper.be.

Practical

Bring your laptop and a version of Ableton Live (Lite/Intro/Standard/Suite or another DAW of your choice) + headphones.

***Please note! A wireless connection/Bluetooth is not suitable for working in Ableton Live. Choose headphones or earphones with an old-fashioned cable connection.***

Do you have an audio interface, MIDI controller or keyboard? Feel free to bring them along (this is not a requirement). An external mouse can also be useful for working smoothly.

Level of experience

Level 2: Basic technical knowledge and experience with Ableton software is highly recommended (other DAWs are also acceptable). This does not mean that you must have the same experience or prior knowledge in the field of music (composition, harmony, ensemble playing, etc.).

Basic interface navigation:
You know how to navigate the Ableton Live interface, including the Arrangement and Session Views, as well as how to open and use various panels, such as the Clip View, Device View and Mixer.

Audio and MIDI recording:
You have experience with audio and MIDI recording, including creating audio and MIDI tracks, arming tracks, and recording audio or MIDI data.

Clip Management:
You are familiar with working with audio and MIDI clips, including creating, duplicating, and arranging clips in both Session and Arrangement View.

Basics of MIDI Programming:
You understand how to create and edit MIDI notes, use MIDI controllers, and program MIDI clips.

Basics of Audio Editing:
You are proficient with various audio editing techniques such as cutting, trimming, and arranging audio clips. This also includes a basic understanding of time stretching and warping.

Working with Effects:
You know how to add and manipulate audio and MIDI effects to tracks.
