Deconstructed handstands: between acrobatics, dance and movement investigation

Code:
20GVD918W
Course description

How does the acrobat move and which principles does he use to move his mode into space? How can the handstand be more dynamic and our movement be more stable and balanced? What social patterns do we find in our practice and how do we listen to what we are hearing or seeing?

In this workshop, you will meet and train two different approaches of combining circus, dance and movement investigation.

Aiming for training our spectrum of agility we will work on balance, strength, coordination and speed, through a sustainable and holistic approach and practice. Both solo practice as well as partnering situations will invite us to grow as adaptive movers.

We will visit a lot of upside down situations and look for our proprioceptive blindspots. It will be specific and open at the same time. For all trained dancers with an open mind!

About the teachers and their approach

Verena and Winston have an interdisciplinary approach in common and have been training together with Tomislav English and his Ferus Animi practice, among others. Winston’s background is based in acrobatics and partner acrobatics, Verena’s approach is based on her experience as a handbalancer and her performance & dance studies.

Having constructed and deconstructed their acrobatic training over the past 10 years, this workshop will share ongoing thoughts and speculations on how to approach this way of moving.

Level of experience needed
Level 3: you have a regular dance or physical practice. You are familiar with situations passing through hands or being upside down, using arms carrying you.
